Sheikh Hasina Accuses US of Role in Ouster Over Saint Martin Island, Caretaker Government Welcomed
Aug 11, 2024, 06:53 AM
Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has accused the United States of playing a role in her ouster, stating that she could have remained in power if she had surrendered the sovereignty of Saint Martin Island to the US. Hasina, who resigned and fled to Delhi, claims that the US aimed to assert control over the Bay of Bengal. She revealed these allegations in a speech she intended to deliver before her departure on August 5. Hasina also mentioned that her comments on students were distorted. Despite her resignation, she has vowed to return to Bangladesh and urged citizens not to be manipulated by radicals. The US government has welcomed the appointment of a new caretaker government in Bangladesh.
