Biden Administration Resumes Shipment of MK-82 500-Pound Bombs to Israel, Releases Half
Jul 10, 2024, 10:02 PM
The Biden administration has decided to resume the shipment of MK-82 500-pound bombs to Israel, ending a two-month pause that was initially imposed to reduce civilian casualties in Gaza. This decision comes despite ongoing concerns about the impact of these bombs in densely populated areas, including Rafah. The shipment, which had been withheld since May, is expected to arrive in the coming weeks. However, the administration continues to withhold the transfer of 2,000-pound bombs due to their potential for greater destruction in Gaza. The Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. officials confirmed the resumption of the 500-pound bomb shipments, while the hold on 2,000-pound bombs remains in place. About half of the shipment has been released.
