Kenya Sees Nationwide Youth Protests Against Finance Bill 2024 in Churches and Nightclubs
Jun 25, 2024, 07:41 AM
Kenya is witnessing widespread protests against the Finance Bill 2024. Demonstrations have erupted in various locations, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru, and Nyahururu. Protesters have taken to the streets, nightclubs, and churches, chanting anti-government slogans and demanding the rejection of the bill. In Nairobi, nightclubs halted music at midnight to allow revellers to protest. Church leaders have also voiced their support for the protests, urging the government to listen to the grievances. Protests have also been reported outside the Kenyan Embassy in Washington DC. The protests have seen youth participation across the country, with some incidents of police intervention, including the use of teargas in Nairobi. Specific locations of protests include Holy Family Basilica, Pembe za Ndovu, Ngong, and Kajiado. The protests are set to continue, with a major demonstration planned for Tuesday.
