Texas Longhorn Mascot Bevo Banned from SEC Championship in Atlanta Due to Size
Dec 6, 2024, 06:47 PM
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has barred the University of Texas's live mascot, Bevo XV, from attending the SEC Championship Game against Georgia in Atlanta due to logistical issues related to Bevo's size. Weighing over 1,700 pounds with a horn span of 58 inches, the SEC officials determined that there was no suitable space for him on the sideline at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Despite efforts by the Silver Spurs, the group responsible for Bevo, the decision was made to exclude him from the game. This ruling extends to any potential National Championship game at the same venue. The absence of Bevo has sparked a petition among Texas fans, gathering over 5,797 signatures, to reconsider the decision, highlighting the mascot's significance to the team and its supporters.
