Aug 18, 2024, 12:10 AM
The Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka, Russia, has erupted following a significant seismic event. A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Russia, reportedly triggering the volcanic activity. The eruption sent ash clouds soaring up to 8 kilometers into the sky. Continuous high-energy electrostatic discharges and lava extrusion have been observed. The ash column has reached a height of 5 miles, and the eruption is ongoing. The earthquake occurred 107 kilometers southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a depth of 51 kilometers.
