Hungary and Russia Work to Resume Lukoil Oil Supplies Amid Ukrainian Legal Issues via Druzhba Pipeline
Jul 18, 2024, 04:59 AM
Hungary and Russia are working to resume oil supplies after they were halted due to legal issues in Ukraine. The suspension of oil deliveries to Hungary by Russian energy giant Lukoil is a result of Ukraine hardening sanctions against the company. These sanctions effectively prohibit Lukoil from using Ukraine as a transit country for its products via the Druzhba pipeline. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has stated that Hungary's MOL Nyrt. and Russia's Lukoil are jointly seeking a legally acceptable solution to resume deliveries. Hungary received an exemption from EU sanctions on Russian oil. Additionally, Slovakia has also stopped receiving oil from Lukoil due to the same transit ban imposed by Ukraine.
