House Freedom Caucus and Main Street Caucus Reach Deal to Raise Motion-to-Vacate Threshold to 9 Members
Nov 13, 2024, 11:13 PM
Members of the House Freedom Caucus and the Republican Main Street Caucus have reached a tentative agreement to raise the threshold for filing a motion to oust the House Speaker from one member to nine members. This agreement comes ahead of the leadership elections and involves dropping some proposed House GOP Conference rules change amendments. Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed the deal, which was negotiated by House Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Harris and Main Street Caucus Chair Dusty Johnson. The negotiations were reportedly motivated by a call for unity from former President Donald Trump. The agreement was confirmed by three sources, including reports from Liz Elkind.
