Documents Reveal Hamas Sought Iran's Support for 9/11-Style Attacks; Tehran Denies Involvement
Oct 12, 2024, 09:16 PM
Israeli forces have recovered documents indicating that Hamas had attempted to coordinate its October 7, 2023 attack on Israel with Iran and Hezbollah. The documents, reviewed by major news outlets such as The New York Times and The Washington Post, reveal that Yahya Sinwar's deputy met with senior Iranian commander Mohammed Said Izadi in Lebanon in August 2023, seeking support to strike sensitive sites at the start of the assault. Additionally, the documents show that Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas’s Qatar-based political leader, was fully aware and briefed on 'the big project', undercutting reports of a breach between Hamas’s Gaza leadership and its political leadership abroad. Hamas had planned a larger-scale attack, including potential 9/11-style attacks targeting skyscrapers in Tel Aviv, aiming for the destruction of the state of Israel. However, Iran has categorically denied any involvement or prior knowledge of the attacks.
