Senators Propose Elon Musk for Speaker After Spending Bill Blocked
Dec 19, 2024, 02:51 PM
Senator Rand Paul has proposed that billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk be considered for Speaker of the House, stating that 'nothing would disrupt the swamp more than electing Elon Musk.' The suggestion comes after Musk reportedly helped block a bipartisan agreement on a short-term spending bill. Other politicians, including Senator Mike Lee and Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, have also expressed support for Musk as a potential Speaker. Mike Lee additionally suggested Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy for the role, tweeting that 'House Republicans should hire either Elon Musk or Vivek Ramaswamy as their next speaker.' Current Speaker Mike Johnson's leadership is facing scrutiny following recent legislative challenges. The Speaker of the House is not required to be a member of Congress, which opens the possibility for an outsider like Musk or Ramaswamy to assume the position.
