Delhi to Introduce Law to Regulate Coaching Centres After Three Deaths Due to Flooding
Jul 31, 2024, 05:09 AM
Three civil services aspirants tragically died after the basement of their coaching institute in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi, was flooded with rainwater on July 27. Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi stated that she immediately reached the spot upon receiving the information and assessed the situation. She has written a letter to the MCD Commissioner, instructing action to be taken. In response to the incident, Delhi Minister Atishi announced at a press conference on July 29 that the Delhi government will introduce a new law to regulate coaching centres. A magisterial probe has been initiated to ascertain which officer ignored complaints about the institute's illegal basement and waterlogging issues. The AAP government is addressing the outrage over the deaths and taking steps to prevent such tragedies in the future.
