UNIFIL Criticized for Failing to Enforce Hezbollah Disarmament, Tunnels Found 100 Meters Away
Oct 13, 2024, 03:08 PM
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has come under intense scrutiny for its failure to enforce UN Resolution 1701, which mandates the disarmament of Hezbollah and the prevention of its activities south of the Litani River. Reports have surfaced showing Hezbollah tunnels and bunkers located just 100 meters away from UNIFIL posts in southern Lebanon. Israeli journalist Doron Kadosh has documented these findings, revealing that Hezbollah has been able to build fortified military positions right under the noses of UNIFIL. IDF documentation also supports these claims. This has led to calls for UNIFIL to withdraw, as they are perceived to be ineffective in their peacekeeping role and, according to some, even acting as human shields for Hezbollah.
