Japan to Hunt Large Fin Whales, Five Years After Exiting International Body

Japan has announced plans to include large fin whales in its commercial whaling species list, according to government spokesperson and Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi. This decision, reported by Yomiuri and set to face significant opposition from environmental groups, comes five years after Japan withdrew from an international body that regulates commercial whaling. The government supports the sustainable use of whales based on scientific evidence. Japan already targets three other whale species since resuming commercial whaling in 2019.
