President-elect Trump Calls Greenland Purchase 'Absolute Necessity'; PM Egede Says 'Not for Sale'
Dec 23, 2024, 03:50 PM
President-elect Donald Trump has renewed his interest in purchasing Greenland, declaring on Truth Social that U.S. ownership and control of the island is an 'absolute necessity' for national security and freedom throughout the world. He stated, 'For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity.' Greenland's Prime Minister Múte B. Egede responded by asserting that 'Greenland is not for sale and will never be for sale. We must not lose our long struggle for freedom.' The autonomous Danish territory has been part of Denmark for over 600 years. Trump's renewed interest echoes his previous attempts to acquire Greenland during his first term, which were similarly rebuffed.
