Treasury Study: Crypto Gains Help Low-Income Households Buy Homes, Impact on Financial Stability Minimal
Nov 27, 2024, 07:31 AM
A study conducted by the U.S. Department of the Treasury's research arm, the Office of Financial Research (OFR), reveals that low-income households with exposure to cryptocurrencies have been able to leverage their gains to purchase homes. The research highlights that zip codes with the highest levels of crypto exposure experienced a notable increase in mortgage and auto loan originations and balances over the years. Despite initial concerns about crypto households stretching their debt, the New York Federal Reserve has reported that the impact of digital assets on financial stability remains minimal.
