Cambridge Study: 98% Quickly Adapt to Prosthetic 'Third Thumb'
May 30, 2024, 12:06 AM
A recent study by Cambridge University researchers has demonstrated that people can quickly learn to use a prosthetic 'Third Thumb,' enhancing their motor capabilities. The device, designed by Dani Clode, was tested on nearly 600 participants at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition by the plasticity_lab team. Results showed that 98% of users were able to control the thumb within the first minute of use. The prosthetic thumb, which can assist in tasks such as opening bottles and picking up objects, has potential applications in improving dexterity and grasping abilities.
