Meta to Launch AI-Generated User Accounts on Facebook and Instagram to Boost Engagement in 2025
Jan 2, 2025, 02:17 PM
Meta Platforms Inc. is set to introduce AI-generated user accounts on its social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram. These AI users will have bios and profile pictures, and will be capable of generating and sharing content, as well as interacting with other users on the platforms. The move is part of Meta's strategy to enhance user engagement and entertainment on its apps over the next two years, according to Connor Hayes, Meta's vice president of product for generative AI. The company has already launched a similar AI character creation tool, part of AI Studio, in the US, with hundreds of thousands of characters created. Additionally, Meta plans to roll out Movie Gen, a tool allowing content creators to use generative AI to change their clothing or video context in 2025. This initiative aims to redefine social media interaction, although it raises concerns about the potential spread of misinformation and the quality of AI-generated content.
