Aug 21, 2024, 06:23 AM
Australia has approved the construction of the world's largest solar and battery farm, the Sun Cable Australia-Asia Power Link, in the Northern Territory. The $20 billion project, backed by tech billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes, will cover 12,400 hectares and is expected to produce 10 gigawatts of electricity. It aims to supply power to three million homes and export electricity to Singapore via a 4,300-kilometer undersea cable. The environmental approval was granted by Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek, marking Australia's largest renewable energy project to date. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese highlighted the significance of this development. The project is expected to begin supplying power by 2030.
