Trump Declares "Strong and Deep" Support for Defense Nominee Hegseth Amid GOP Skepticism
Dec 6, 2024, 03:23 PM
President-elect Donald Trump has publicly affirmed his support for Pete Hegseth, his nominee for Secretary of Defense, amid questions about Hegseth's qualifications and leadership ability. Hegseth, a Princeton and Harvard educated former military officer and Fox News personality, has been meeting with Republican senators on Capitol Hill to address their concerns. Trump described Hegseth as a "winner" with "strong and deep" support, stating that this support is "much more so than the Fake News would have you believe." Hegseth himself stated, "I spoke to Trump this morning... he supports us fully." Despite skepticism from some GOP senators, Trump emphasized that Hegseth will be a "fantastic, high energy Secretary of Defense" with a "military state of mind."
