Bungie Announces Layoffs of 220 Employees, 17% of Workforce, Amid Sony Restructuring
Jul 31, 2024, 04:00 PM
Bungie has announced the layoff of 220 employees, representing approximately 17% of its workforce, and has laid off around 300 roles in less than a year. The decision comes as part of a broader restructuring effort to integrate more closely with Sony Interactive Entertainment and PlayStation Studios. Bungie CEO Pete Parsons cited exceeding financial safety margins and running in the red as reasons for the layoffs. The studio, known for its successful Destiny 2 expansion, will also transition 155 employees to Sony and another 75 to a new studio within PlayStation. Despite the layoffs, Bungie plans to continue its focus on Destiny and Marathon while spinning out a new sci-fi action game.
