Nov 9, 2024, 10:00 PM
Forty-three monkeys bred for bio-research escaped on Wednesday from the Alpha Genesis facility in Yemassee, Beaufort County, South Carolina, prompting authorities to warn residents to secure their doors and windows. The monkeys have been spotted in the woods near the site, and workers are using food to try to recapture them. As of Friday morning, the fugitive monkeys had not been captured. As of Saturday, one monkey has been recovered unharmed, while many others remain at large, some reportedly jumping back and forth over the facility's fence. Police have urged residents to avoid approaching the animals under any circumstances.
