WHO Launches $135 Million Plan to Combat Mpox Global Health Emergency
Aug 26, 2024, 12:36 PM
The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched a Global Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan to address the mpox outbreak, which has been declared a global health emergency. The plan aims to halt human-to-human transmission of the virus through coordinated global, regional, and national efforts. It covers a six-month period from September 2024 to February 2025 and requires an estimated $135 million in funding. The initiative involves WHO, member states, partners including the Africa CDC, communities, and researchers. This response comes amid warnings from health experts that the mpox crisis could have been avoided.
