China and Russia Begin Joint Military Exercise 'Joint Sea-2024' Near Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province
Jul 13, 2024, 07:47 PM
China and Russia have commenced a joint military exercise named 'Exercise Joint Sea-2024' in the waters and airspace near Zhanjiang City in southern China's Guangdong Province. The drills, which began in early July and are scheduled to last until mid-July, are part of an annual military engagement plan and bilateral agreement between the two nations. The exercise aims to demonstrate the determination and capability of both countries to counter security threats, according to Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Zhang Xiaogang. The Russian fleet, including the corvettes Gromkiy and Rezkiy, arrived at the Chinese port of Zhanjiang to participate in the exercises, which will involve anti-air and anti-submarine drills. The exercises come amid heightened tensions following a U.S.-led Western defense alliance meeting and Japan's warnings of growing threats from Beijing's strong ties with Moscow.
