Sánchez Announces €2.274 Billion Aid, 60 Measures for DANA Recovery; 'Climate Change Kills'
Nov 27, 2024, 08:50 AM
Pedro Sánchez, the President of the Spanish Government, has announced a third package of aid worth 2.274 billion euros, comprising 60 measures, to accelerate the recovery of areas affected by the recent DANA that hit Valencia. With this new package, the total aid allocated exceeds 16.6 billion euros. Sánchez made this announcement during a session in the Spanish Congress, where he defended his government's management of the emergency, stating that 'the government fulfilled its responsibilities from the first moment' and emphasizing that 'climate change kills'. He rejected criticism from opposition leaders, particularly from PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who accused Sánchez of showing 'zero self-criticism'. Sánchez also criticized 'negationist governments' that deny climate change and reaffirmed the government's commitment to support the affected communities until normalcy is restored. Additionally, Sánchez announced that an extraordinary Council of Ministers meeting will be held to approve the new aid package.
