A police report provided by a spokesperson for J.D. Vance to the Wall Street Journal claimed that a Springfield, Ohio, resident's cat had been taken by her Haitian neighbors. The resident, Anna Kilgore, a Trump supporter, later found her cat, Miss Sassy, safe in her own basement. Kilgore, who had filed the report in late August, said the cat returned a few days later and apologized to her Haitian neighbors after discovering the cat on Tuesday evening. The incident, which had become a talking point among right-wing influencers, was debunked when the Wall Street Journal followed up on the report and found no evidence to support the initial claim.
