President-elect Donald Trump has selected Florida Representative Mike Waltz, a retired U.S. Army Green Beret, to be his White House National Security Adviser. Waltz, who served in Afghanistan, the Middle East, and Africa, is known as a China hawk and a critic of NATO, advocating for increased defense spending among alliance members. The position does not require Senate confirmation. Waltz co-sponsored the MAHSAAct and has been a vocal proponent of a tough stance on China and Iran. His congressional seat will be filled by a special election.
