Three former Federal Highway Police officers, Paulo Rodolpho, Kleber Nascimento, and William de Barros, have been convicted for the death of Genivaldo de Jesus Santos in Sergipe. The conviction came after an 11-day trial, concluding on December 7, 2024. Genivaldo died in May 2022 after being locked in the trunk of a police car and subjected to tear gas inhalation, an act described as creating an 'improvised gas chamber'. The officers were charged with torture and triple-qualified homicide.
