Al Qahtani was previously identified by U.S. intelligence as complicit in the 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. His account had been permanently suspended under the previous ownership of the platform. The reinstatement has raised questions about the implications of Saudi Arabia's significant investments in X and whether the decision was influenced by these financial ties. Khashoggi, a U.S.-based journalist, was banned from the platform in 2016, reportedly at the behest of Al Qahtani.
