Thai Court Removes PM Srettha in 5-4 Ruling for Ethical Breach
Aug 14, 2024, 08:27 AM
Thailand's Constitutional Court has removed Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin from office due to an ethical violation. The court, in a 5-4 ruling, found him guilty of breaching ethical standards by appointing Pichit Chuenban, a former lawyer with a criminal record, to his cabinet. This decision has dissolved the current cabinet and will require the 500-seat parliament to convene to select a new prime minister. Srettha's removal marks the fourth time in 16 years that a Thai premier has been ousted by a court ruling. The ruling is expected to impact the country's political stability and economic confidence.
