UK Junior Doctors Secure Up to 22.3% Pay Rise Over Two Years to End Strikes
Jul 29, 2024, 11:12 AM
Junior doctors in the UK have struck an improved pay deal with the government, which could see their earnings increase by around 20% over two years. This agreement aims to end the ongoing strike actions that have disrupted the National Health Service (NHS) for over a year. The deal, recommended by the British Medical Association's (BMA) junior doctors committee, includes a backdated pay rise of 4.05% for the 2023-24 fiscal year. The estimated cost of this pay rise is approximately £1 billion annually. Some reports indicate the total pay rise could be as high as 22.3%. The government has expressed its determination to bring the strikes to an end.
