Bavarian Nordic, a prominent vaccine manufacturer, has announced its readiness to produce up to 10 million doses of its mpox vaccine by 2025. This announcement follows the World Health Organization's declaration of a global health emergency due to a rapidly spreading mpox outbreak in Africa. Bavarian Nordic, which is one of the few companies with an approved mpox vaccine, Jynneos, has seen its stock price soar by 32% over the last month. The company is capable of supplying around three million doses in 2024 and is prepared to meet the immunization needs in Africa, although it currently awaits orders to proceed with distribution. Shares of other vaccine and medical product makers have also surged following the WHO's declaration.
