National Hurricane Center's wind speed reports
Tropical Storm Oscar Nears Hurricane Status with 65kt Winds and 993.8mb Pressure
Oct 19, 2024, 04:53 PM
Tropical Storm Oscar has rapidly intensified and is now near hurricane status, with winds reaching nearly 60 knots and a pressure of 993.8mb. Initially, Oscar was not expected to strengthen this quickly, but recent data from the Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunters indicates a small, tight core with near hurricane-force winds of 65kt. The National Hurricane Center named Oscar this morning after it developed a well-defined, compact circulation. Oscar, along with another storm named Nadine, formed within 24 hours in the Atlantic basin. However, neither storm currently poses a threat to Florida or the USA due to a front deflecting them. A special advisory from the NHC may be issued by 2PM.
