Justice Alito Recommends William Levi to Trump Before President-Elect Seeks Delay in New York Hush Money Sentencing
Jan 8, 2025, 11:11 PM
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito spoke with President-elect Donald Trump by phone on Tuesday to recommend a former law clerk, William Levi, for a job in the new administration. The call took place just hours before Trump's legal team filed an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court to delay his sentencing in a New York criminal hush money case, scheduled for Friday. Alito confirmed that the conversation with Trump was solely about Levi's qualifications and did not involve any discussion of the pending legal matters before the court, including Trump's request to block his sentencing. Alito noted that he was unaware at the time of the call that such an application would be filed. Trump's appeal to the Supreme Court seeks to halt all criminal proceedings against him in New York, citing potential damage to the presidency and national security during the presidential transition. Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts related to the hush money case.
