UN Demands Israel End Occupation of Palestinian Territories in 12 Months, 124-14 Vote
Sep 18, 2024, 03:58 PM
The United Nations General Assembly has overwhelmingly adopted a non-binding resolution demanding that Israel end its occupation of Palestinian territories within 12 months. The resolution, which received 124 votes in favor, 14 against, and 43 abstentions, calls for the withdrawal of Israeli military forces and settlers from the occupied territories, including Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem. The resolution also demands sanctions for non-compliance and reparations for those harmed by the occupation. This follows an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice declaring the occupation unlawful. The United States, Israel, and a few other countries opposed the resolution, while many European nations abstained.
