Elon Musk Proposes Starbase, Texas, as New City for SpaceX's Starship Operations
Dec 13, 2024, 04:14 AM
Elon Musk has announced that SpaceX's headquarters will now officially be in Starbase, Texas. The tech billionaire has requested that the Starbase site, where SpaceX builds and launches its Starship rockets, be incorporated into a new city. This move is part of Musk's broader plan to relocate SpaceX's operations from California to Texas, citing the need for rapid development and expansion of the company's workforce. The petition for incorporation was submitted by residents of the area known as Starbase, located on the southern tip of Texas at Boca Chica Beach, near the Mexican border. Musk's vision for Starbase includes turning it into a community to support the growing needs of SpaceX. However, the proposal has faced opposition from some local groups, including Save RGV, concerned about environmental impacts. Kathryn Lueders, the general manager of Starbase, wrote a letter to Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr., requesting an election to enable the incorporation of Starbase as the newest city in the Rio Grande Valley.
