House Passes NDAA Including Automatic Draft Registration for Men 18-26 by Vote of 217 to 199
Jun 14, 2024, 10:08 PM
The House of Representatives has passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for FY25, which includes a provision for the automatic registration of men aged 18 to 26 for selective service. This marks the first time since 1972 that males will be automatically registered, as previously they were required to register on their own. The bill passed by a vote of 217 to 199 and now heads to the Senate. The measure was introduced by Rep. Chrissy Houlahan and aims to address lagging compliance with the previous registration system. The automatic registration sets the stage for a large-scale conscription and is described as making the process more equitable.
