FIDE Ethics Committee Suspends Russian Chess Federation for 3 Years, Reprimands President Dvorkovich
Jun 8, 2024, 06:35 AM
The FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission has found the Chess Federation of Russia (CFR) and FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich guilty in a case submitted by the Ukrainian Chess Federation. As a result, the CFR has been suspended from FIDE membership for three years, and Dvorkovich has received a reprimand. The decision has been met with mixed reactions within the FIDE Council, with some members disagreeing with the verdict. Russian state media, including Match-TV, has reported on the suspension, and Putin's spokesperson Peskov has commented on the verdict. The CFR has announced its intention to appeal the decision.
