Brazil Supreme Court Reverses $8,900/Day VPN Fine for Accessing X
Sep 2, 2024, 07:46 PM
The Brazilian Supreme Court initially upheld a decision by Justice Alexandre de Moraes to ban the social media platform X in Brazil and impose a daily fine of $10,000 on individuals using VPNs to access it. The decision was supported by three out of five judges on a special panel. However, the Supreme Court later reversed its stance, announcing that it will no longer enforce the $8,900/day fine on Brazilians who use VPNs to access X. The fines remain in place for those using VPNs to spread hate speech.
