Valve Removes Arbitration Clause in Steam Agreement; All Disputes Proceed in Court
Sep 27, 2024, 02:41 PM
Valve Corporation, the parent company of the digital distribution platform Steam, has updated its subscriber agreement on Thursday to remove the forced arbitration clause and class action waiver. This change allows users to bring disputes against Valve in court rather than being compelled to resolve issues through arbitration. The revised agreement states that "all disputes and claims proceed in court." The decision comes after Valve's arbitration provision was found to be unenforceable, possibly due to a recent class action of gamers who won a binding arbitration hearing arguing that forced arbitration is not enforceable. The updated agreement opens the door for lawsuits against the company.
