Google Wins General Court Challenge Against €1.49 Billion EU Antitrust Fine
Sep 18, 2024, 11:28 AM
Google has won a significant legal victory against the European Union, successfully overturning a €1.49 billion ($1.66 billion) antitrust fine. The fine was originally imposed in 2019 for allegedly hindering competition in online search advertising. Europe's second-top court, the General Court, annulled the fine, finding that the European Commission had not adequately considered all relevant circumstances regarding Google's AdSense product. Meanwhile, Qualcomm's antitrust fine was largely upheld by the EU court, though it was slightly reduced to €238.7 million from an initial €242 million.
