President-elect Trump Nominates Matt Gaetz, Under Ethics Investigation, as Attorney General
Nov 14, 2024, 02:14 PM
President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., to be the U.S. Attorney General. Gaetz, who has been under an ethics investigation over claims of sexual misconduct, bribery, and drug use, which he denies, was also previously involved in a sex trafficking investigation. Trump, who has been found liable for rape, described the nomination as a 'God-tier kind of trolling.' Reaction among Republicans on Capitol Hill to Trump's choice ranged from shock to support to outright dismissal, with some sources reporting audible gasps. Andy McCabe commented that Gaetz is 'wholly unqualified' for the job. Gaetz reportedly pitched himself to Trump during a flight, promising to be the AG Trump wanted.
