In a dramatic incident during the first game of a doubleheader at Camden Yards between the Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays, Orioles catcher James McCann was struck in the nose by a 95 mph fastball thrown by Blue Jays pitcher Yariel Rodríguez. The pitch resulted in a severe nosebleed for McCann, who was attended to by trainers Brian Ebel and Patrick Wesley. Despite the injury, McCann remained in the game after a delay to stop the bleeding and change his jersey. Rodríguez, who struggled with command, walking four batters and hitting McCann, was booed off the field by Orioles fans after recording just two outs on 43 pitches. The Blue Jays' bullpen was left to cover 25 outs in the game, which saw the Orioles leading 4-0 in the first inning.
