Nine House Democrats Urge Biden to Step Aside in 2024 Race, Back Kamala Harris
Jul 7, 2024, 09:42 PM
US President Joe Biden is facing increasing pressure from within his own party to step aside from the 2024 presidential race. Following a poor debate performance against Donald Trump on June 27, five House Democrats publicly urged Biden to withdraw, including Reps. Lloyd Doggett, Raúl Grijalva, Seth Moulton, Mike Quigley, and Angie Craig. Additionally, during a private leadership call, senior House Democrats such as Jerry Nadler, Mark Takano, Don Beyer, Adam Smith, and Joe Morelle echoed the call for Biden to step aside. The pressure has been mounting as Biden campaigns in Pennsylvania, a critical swing state, to reassure voters of his candidacy. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries convened the call to address the growing concerns among Democratic members. Some Democrats have suggested Kamala Harris as a potential nominee, while Sen. Mark Warner is working to build a coalition to nudge Biden out. In total, nine House Democrats have called for Biden to step aside.
