Zuckerberg Admits Biden, FBI Pressure on Meta Censorship, Regrets COVID-19 Actions in Letter to Jim Jordan
Aug 26, 2024, 11:39 PM
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, has admitted that the Biden-Harris administration pressured his teams to censor content on the platforms. In a letter to the House Judiciary Committee, Zuckerberg expressed regret over Meta's compliance with the administration's demands, particularly concerning COVID-19 content. He stated that senior officials from the Biden administration, including the White House, repeatedly pressured Meta for months in 2021 to censor certain information, including humor and satire. Zuckerberg also acknowledged that Facebook demoted the New York Post's story about Hunter Biden's laptop. He expressed that the government pressure was wrong and regretted not being more outspoken about it at the time. Additionally, Zuckerberg disclosed that the FBI also exerted pressure on Meta. The letter was addressed to Jim Jordan, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, and mentioned regrets over the impact on the 2020 election.
