Boeing Reaches Tentative Deal with Union to Avert Strike by 33,000 Workers, Includes 25% Wage Increase
Sep 8, 2024, 11:47 AM
Boeing has reached a tentative agreement with its largest labor union, potentially averting a strike that could have involved 33,000 West Coast employees. The agreement, announced on Sunday, includes a 25% general wage increase over a four-year contract, with average wages rising 33% due to seniority step increases. Additionally, Boeing agreed to build its next commercial airplane in Washington state and provide $3,000 lump sum payments, along with a lower share of health care costs for workers. The deal comes after marathon weekend talks and as a vote on the new contract looms on September 12. Acting U.S. Labor Secretary Julie Su had encouraged both parties to reach a fair contract amid the negotiations. Boeing’s Seattle-area workers, who produce its strongest-selling 737 commercial jet and other planes, vote next week on their first full new contract in 16 years.
