Outrage in Kenya Over Abductions Under Ruto's Government
Jun 24, 2024, 10:12 AM
The recent abductions in Kenya have sparked outrage and condemnation from various quarters. Dr. Austin Omondi, also known as JaPrado, was abducted while mobilizing blood donations for victims of police brutality. The Kenyan medical union (KMPDU) has condemned his abduction, allegedly by government agents, and demanded his immediate release, threatening a nationwide medical shutdown. Civil society activists, including Boniface Mwangi, Hussein Khalid, and Hanifa Adan, were also arrested at the DCI Headquarters while demanding answers over the abductions. Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga joined the activists in their protest, calling the abductions unconstitutional. The activists were later released without charges after recording statements. The abductions have occurred under the government of William Samoei Ruto. AG JB Muturi’s son was also abducted and later released. CCTV footage showed a land cruiser trailing the abducted individuals.
