CDC Implements New Dog Import Rules to Prevent Rabies Spread Starting August 1
Aug 1, 2024, 02:00 PM
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has implemented a new policy aimed at preventing the spread of rabies, which goes into effect on August 1. The policy introduces new requirements for bringing dogs into the United States, impacting pet owners returning from overseas trips, visitors to the U.S., and those adopting dogs from abroad. For dogs coming from rabies-free or low-risk countries, only a simple CDC Dog Import Form is required. Representative Rick Larsen has called on the CDC to consider delaying the implementation of this rule to address the unique needs of border communities. He has communicated this request in a letter to CDC Director Mandy Cohen.
