Macron Accuses Elon Musk of Interfering in German Elections and Backing 'New Reactionary International'
Jan 6, 2025, 12:00 PM
French President Emmanuel Macron has accused Elon Musk, owner of social media platform X (formerly Twitter), of directly intervening in European elections, including Germany, and supporting 'a new reactionary international.' Speaking to ambassadors, Macron denounced 'unacceptable interference' by 'destabilizing powers.' He remarked, 'Ten years ago, who could have imagined that the owner of one of the largest social networks in the world would support a new international reactionary movement and intervene directly in elections.' The German government responded by downplaying Musk's influence, with a spokesperson stating that Musk cannot influence a country of 84 million people. Macron's comments follow Musk's expressions of support for nationalist movements in Germany and the United Kingdom.
