Report Finds Toxic Culture at Nine Entertainment; 22 Changes Recommended Amid 'Game of Thrones' Divisions
Oct 17, 2024, 04:05 AM
An independent report into Nine Entertainment, parent company of Channel Nine and the Financial Review, has revealed a systemic toxic culture within the organisation, including abuse of power and authority, bullying, discrimination, sexual harassment, and grooming. The report, handed down on Thursday, recommended 22 changes, including significant reforms at the management level, where 'Game of Thrones' style divisions are rife. It found that bosses in Nine's broadcast division would belittle, intimidate, gaslight, shame, ghost, and sexually harass employees. Staff were warned not to complain to HR, as complaints against management were often covered up. Nine Chair Catherine West acknowledged the 'undeniable' cultural issues within the company, stating, 'Today is an incredibly difficult day for Nine as we confront these findings and reflect on serious cultural issues as an organisation.' Nine's new boss described the report as 'difficult reading.' Despite the serious findings, on-air stars are reportedly furious that none of the current managers implicated in the review will be held accountable.
