North Korea Sends 3,000 Troops in 'Special Buryat Battalion' to Aid Russia in Ukraine
Oct 14, 2024, 04:51 PM
North Korea is reportedly sending military personnel to assist Russia in its ongoing conflict with Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that North Korean troops have been spotted in occupied Ukrainian territories, including bases near Mariupol and Sartana in the Donetsk region. These troops are part of a 'Special Buryat Battalion' formed within Russia's 11th Separate Air Assault Brigade, which is expected to consist of up to 3,000 soldiers. North Korea has also been supplying Russia with significant military aid, including artillery shells and missiles. Additionally, Zelensky noted that Russian forces are using up to 900 aerial bombs per week. Leaked reports suggest North Korean soldiers are being issued identity cards to pass them off as Buryats. This development marks a deepening of the military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, raising concerns among Ukraine and its allies about the escalation of the conflict.
