Australian Tennis Star Max Purcell Suspended for Exceeding IV Infusion Limit
Dec 23, 2024, 09:52 AM
Australian tennis player Max Purcell, ranked No. 12 in doubles and No. 105 in singles, has voluntarily accepted a provisional suspension under the Tennis Anti-Doping Program. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced the sanction, which stems from Purcell's admission of using a 'prohibited method' by receiving an IV infusion of vitamins that exceeded the allowed limit of 100 ml. The suspension, effective from December 12, prohibits Purcell from participating in any tennis events sanctioned by ITIA members or national associations. Purcell, who won the US Open doubles title in 2024 with compatriot Jordan Thompson and Wimbledon in 2022 with Matthew Ebden, expressed devastation over the news, emphasizing his commitment to adhering to World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regulations. He hopes to return to the court soon.
